Concept Evaluation

Items to be prototyped:

Ranking ideas based on originality, aligning with the problem statements, material used for cost effectiveness, etc.

  • Electric Bottle Opener
    • This concept will solve the problem of opening plastic or glass bottles with twist off caps. Current solutions only solve this problem for opening jars. One product exists for the elderly dealing with arthritis but requires the user to support the bottle. Our solution will twist and support the bottle. This product will be able to be used on any bottle with a twist off cap and could be a useful item to keep in the home. This will be able to easily be prototyped with 3D printing or foam.
  • Magnetic spatula tool
    • It may be easy for some pans to be pulled out with one hand regularly, but for heavier and more unbalanced items (ex: turkey), this product will help maintain stability for our user. This tool will allow our user to easily balance their pan and remove it from the oven. It will be magnetic so they don’t have to worry too much about balancing the pan and it will have a rubber handle so the user does not burn their hand. This tool can easily be prototyped visually and physically with the combining current kitchen tools.
  • Rotating Pan Scrubber
    • This idea would allow the user to easily clean pots and pans in the sink without straining their wrist. Three spinning cleaning brushes would attach to the bottom of the sink with either suction or magnets, and the user could hold the pan and rotate it around the brushes to clean the pan. Rotating brushes exist, however using these with one hand would mean the pan could spin in the sink and it would be hard to reach the sides and maneuver the pan.
  • Trash Bag Securing Apparatus
    • This idea would help individuals be able to secure a full trash bag and be able to throw it in a dumpster. It is difficult to tie the bag with one hand and be able to secure the bag. Having the tool to put the strings out and then seal will be helpful.
  • Strap coming over your shoulder to attach to the other side of a heavy pot or pan.
    • This idea will allow a person to carry a heavy pot or pan when they need to drain it or just move it. There will also be an apron and or a pole to distance the possibly hot pot or pan from the person’s body so they do not burn themselves.
  • Magnetic Bottle Brush
    • This idea would allow the user to wash different types of dishes in the sink, specifically bottles and glasses. The bottom of the base would be metal and stick to the sink, side or bottom, whatever is preferred by the user.  Different head attachments including silicone, stainless steel, or chenille microfiber for varying types of dishes and sizes. It can be thought of as having the customizability like 6-in-1 screwdrivers where the head magnetically swaps for different applications.
