Water Polo

I started playing water polo in 8th grade and instantly loved it. I played water polo all four years of high school and on varsity my junior and senior year. I started playing because I was on swim team and I had heard about of fun it is. Seeing how I hated swimming I thought water polo would be a good alternative. I am so thankful I joined my high school team. I have made so many memories playing and being with my team that I will always remember as well as I met my very best friends through the team. Water polo is known to be one of the toughest sports out there and that’s what I love most about the sport. I am able to have an outlet for any pent up emotions I feel as well as get a good workout. Me and my friends are always comparing cuts and bruises we got during a game or practice and while some people may think that’s weird, I love it. Since coming to college, I have joined the OSU women’s water polo team and I love it! It has been a great way to learn about campus and meet lots of new friends while still being able to play a great sport.

Artifact #2

My Best Friends

Since coming to college, I have found a few girls through water polo that I consider to be my best friends. Rachael (far right) has been my bestfriend from home for years. It’s so exciting to be going to college together because we are able to branch out and make new friends while still remaining close. Jory and Lauren (left two) have become my “college” best friends. Both of them are on the water polo team with me and Lauren is also a part of Real Life and HES with me. I am so thankful to have met them because they are always there for me and they bring out my best qualities. Friends are so important to have- especially in college when you are faced with many new challenges and it’s great to know that these girls always have my back.

About Me

Hi!

My name is Madeleine Mears. I was born in New Orleans, then I moved to Chicago where I was raised and recently, my family has moved to Nashville so I guess you could say that’s where I’m from. I live with my parents, my brother Warren, my sister Grace, our two cats, Cosmo and Newman and our puppy, Beignet. I’m currently on the Pre Industrial Systems track at OSU. So far on campus, I have joined the Women’s Water Polo team. I love the team! I played water polo all four years of high school so I knew I wanted to play in college. I have also become involved with CRU at Ohio State which is an on campus ministry. I was very active in my church throughout high school and I really wanted to join something similar in college.

For the Strengths Test, my top five strengths were:

  1. Relator, this makes a lot of sense to me because I try to minimize disputes at all cost. Within my friend group, I am usually the moderator when someone is having a disagreement. I’m the type of person who is content with having a few very close friends as opposed to hundreds of surface level friends
  2. Intellection, again this also makes sense. The thoughts in my head are constantly going a million miles an hour. When I get worked up over something I can’t stop thinking about it until it is resolved.
  3. Harmony
  4. Empathy
  5. Deliberative
