Ishrat Jahan, PhD
Research Senior Associate
Ishrat’s graduate and undergraduate trainings are in Chemistry. So, she sees biological phenomenon through the lens of chemistry. “In fact, whatever happens inside a living organism is a chemical reaction. In Meares lab, we are a team with diverse backgrounds who feel supported and comfortable sharing our ideas to uncover that very reaction mechanism!”, she says. Favorite instrument: Cytek Aurora.

Micah Marshall, BS
Researcher 1
Micah graduated with a degree in Neuroscience from Ohio State University in 2022 and now works full-time as a research associate in the Meares Neuroimmunology Lab. He is driven by a fascination with how minute-scale cellular and molecular pathways contribute to brain activity patterns, behavior, and psychology. This role has deepened his interest in understanding how inflammation plays a more critical role than once believed in a wide range of neurological diseases. Outside his academic and coaching roles, Micah enjoys dancing, rock climbing, and spending time in nature. He will apply to Clinical Psychology PhD programs for the Fall 2025 cycle to integrate these interests with his curiosity about inter and intrapersonal relationships. Favorite instrument: Hula Mixer.

Subhodip Adhicary, PhD
Postdoctoral Researcher
Subhodip (Shubo) has developed a keen interest in mechanisms underlying glial stress and inflammatory response crosstalk. His research interests extend to understanding how the vasculature influences the immune environment at the CNS interface. In the lab, he is working toward identifying both cell-autonomous and non-cell-autonomous roles of glia and endothelium in modulating immune responses, with a focus on autoimmunity, ischemic stroke, and neurodegeneration. Outside the lab, Shubo enjoys music and spending quality time with family, including his cherished canine companion. Favorite instrument: Confocal systems.

Katilyn Simmons, BS
Katy is a first year PhD student in the Neuroscience Graduate Program. She is interested broadly in microglia and their interactions with other cells within the realm of neuroimmunology. In the lab, she is currently working on investigating the role of the JAK/STAT pathway in microglia and neuroinflammation. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball and/or spending time outdoors. Favorite instrument: Cell culture biosafety cabinet.

Basant H. Ahmed, DVM
Basant is a veterinary clinical pathology resident and a PhD student at Dr. Meares lab who loves neuroscience and nice stained cytology. She’s working on understanding the ISR in mice stroke models aiming for improving outcomes for stroke patients and find new therapeutic avenues. In her free time, she loves to listen to relaxing music, read a book and cuddle with her two cats! Favorite instrument: Anesthetic electronic vaporizer system.
