Requesting a Leave of Absence from the Program of Study
Students are expected to complete the program curriculum in a timely and sequential manner. Anytime a student does not intend to enroll in classes for one or more semesters, a Leave of Absense (LOA) petition is required. Taking a LOA ensures that the time taken off does not count towards the five-year completion requirement for the master’s degree. A student should discuss the LOA and how it may affect their degree progress with their faculty advisor prior to submitting any petitions.
To request a LOA, a student must complete two online forms: one for the College of Nursing and one for the University’s Graduate School. For the College of Nursing, the student will complete the Leave of Absence (LOA) From the Program of Study (MHI, MCR, Traditional DNP, DNE, Certificate Programs) form in Beacon. Then, for the Graduate School, they will complete Leave of Absence form in the GradForms system.
Withdrawing from the Program
Students wishing to withdraw permanently from their graduate degree program should contact their faculty advisor first to discuss the possibility of any assistance that the College or University can provide in order to help them continue with their degree. If they still wish to withdraw, they must email the MCR Graduate Program Manager to inform them of their intentions. The Graduate Program Manager can then have the College of Nursing’s records updated. The student must then complete the Withdrawal from Program form in the GradForms system.
