McGill position

The Department of East Asian Studies, McGill University, seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Chinese Humanities to begin in August 2023. The position is open to any period with strong preference for the premodern and early modern eras. We seek applicants whose work stands outside the dominant framework of China as a nation-state, and who think across regions as an organizing principle for knowledge production. Desirable areas of specialization include literature, culture, gender, media, and inter-Asia studies. Candidates should be prepared to teach general courses offered in the Department as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization and be an active contributor to the development of the programs. We especially encourage applicants with interdisciplinary interests who engage with critical theories and methodologies in their research. In sum, we seek a colleague whose teaching, research, and commitment to service will contribute diverse perspectives and experiences to departmental and university initiatives. Ph.D. is expected at the time of appointment. Teaching experience preferred. Salary will be negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
