The Department of Cinema and Media Studies at The University of Chicago is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in the field of Chinese or Korean Cinema and Media Studies expected to begin July 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are invited across a range of specializations including but not limited to digital cinema and media, transnational cinema and media, environmental media, science and technology studies, film and media cultures, women’s studies, gender, and sexuality, or/and critical race studies. The selected candidate will be expected to teach courses in cinema and media theory and history at multiple levels, to supervise research using primary language materials in Chinese or Korean, and to direct doctoral theses.
We seek applicants with a research agenda that has made, or has the potential to make, distinctive contributions in cinema and media studies and who are excellent teachers or have the potential to become excellent teachers at the university level.
All requirements for receipt of a Ph.D. in Cinema and Media Studies or a related field must be completed by the start of the appointment.
