Lu Xun Studies outside China project (1)

One scholar you should cite is Mamtimin Ala, the Uyghur philosopher in exile, who has a discussion of Lu Xun in his recent book Worse Than Death: Reflections on the Uyghur Genocide (Hamilton Books, 2021), pp. 54-55.

I think it’s a brilliant move, to bring in Lu Xun to try to understand how China turned into the genocide country that it is today. The ongoing orgy of violence and killing, organized from the top, in this supposedly “civilized” country, — that is the lead question in Chinese studies, in our time. And I think in his in answer, Mamtimin Ala successfully draws on Lu Xun.
