Columbia lecturer position

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures invites applications for a Lecturer in Discipline specializing in Chinese history, literature, or visual culture, to begin July 1, 2022. Eligible candidates must be early career scholars who have received the PhD degree between January 1, 2018 to June 1, 2022.

This is a full-time position, with the possibility of renewal for up to one year. The selected candidate will teach four courses in the 2022-2023 academic year, two in the fall and two in the spring. Courses will be assigned in consultation with the EALAC department chair and administration, and will include a minimum of two EALAC core curriculum courses such as “Introduction to East Asian Civilizations: China,” or “History of Modern China,” and/or “Introduction to Major Texts: East Asian.”

Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. In addition to salary, this position is also eligible for Columbia University benefits. To apply, applicants should submit:

  3. Three letters of recommendation.
  4. Dissertation abstract.
  5. Academic writing sample.

Degree Required: PhD or equivalent degree.

Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching is required.
