Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor in Asian Studies (Chinese Language and Culture)

Hobart and William Smith Colleges invite applications for a one-semester leave replacement in Chinese language and culture for the Spring 2022 semester. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefits eligible position. Teaching load will be three courses, Beginning Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, and one culture course. The area of the Chinese culture course is negotiable. Candidates trained in Chinese literature, linguistics, or cultural studies are encouraged to apply.

Minimum qualifications: ABD considered, but Ph.D. preferable; college-level language teaching experience; knowledgeable of both traditional and simplified characters; and native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese.

Founded as Hobart College for men and William Smith College for women, Hobart and William Smith Colleges today are a highly selective residential liberal arts institution with a single administration, faculty and curriculum but separate dean’s offices, student governments, athletic programs and traditions. The Colleges are located in a small diverse city in the Finger Lakes region of New York State.
