Macalester position

Visiting Assistant Professor of Chinese at Macalester College

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Macalester College announces an opening for a one-year (with potential for an additional year) visiting assistant professor position in Chinese Language and Culture. The appointment will begin September 1, 2020. This position is full time and benefits eligible.  The teaching load is five courses for the year. Applicants should possess expertise in Chinese literature or other disciplines related to China (These include but are not limited to Cultural Studies, Visual and/or Material Culture, Intellectual History, and Linguistics), have native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, and demonstrate ability and commitment to teach all levels of language in an inclusive liberal arts context.  A Ph.D. is preferred, although qualified ABDs will be considered. The teaching responsibilities will involve both language and literature/culture courses.
