Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Modern Chinese Literature in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 201701737)

Applications are invited for tenure-track appointment as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Modern Chinese Literature in the School of Chinese, to commence on September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in modern Chinese literature or related areas, be actively engaged in research, and have a substantial track record of research publications in modern Chinese literature. They should also be able to demonstrate an ability to participate in and support a vibrant and collaborative research culture. The area of research in modern Chinese literature is open, but an ability to teach the literature of the twentieth century China will be an advantage. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects.

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
