U of Victoria–asst prof position

The Department of Pacific and Asian Studies at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, effective 1 July 2018, in modern Chinese literature and culture, including, but not limited to, expertise in one or more of film, new media, theory, and performing arts. Innovative, interdisciplinary or comparative approaches are especially welcome. Applicants should have completed a PhD by 1 July 2018, have a record and promise of outstanding research as evidenced by publications or forthcoming publications, and also have demonstrated the potential for excellence in teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in his/her area of specialization, contribute to the department’s core courses on the Pacific-Asia region and participate in graduate teaching and supervision.

The Department of Pacific & Asian Studies is a dynamic, interdisciplinary department within the Faculty of Humanities. It has particular strengths in Chinese and Japanese Studies, and long-standing interests in Southeast Asia. It offers a range of programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and it is involved with a number of campus-wide initiatives, such as the Centre for Asia Pacific Initiatives.
