Inside the China Box Office

(New York, NY – September 8, 2017) –China Film Insider is partnering with the China Hollywood Society to jointly present our first online event!

“Insider The China Box Office”, a web panel discussing the ins and outs of the China Box Office, will take place on Thursday, September 14 at 11 am PST/2 pm EST online. Industry experts from both the United States and China will discuss the current state of China box office, how it’s different from Hollywood, dollar splits, growth, and how to navigate the Chinese box office as an independent producer.

Our panelists will include Rob Cain, founder of ChinaFilmBiz and writer at Forbes; Jonathan Papish, reporter and writer at China Film Insider; and Yuan Yuan, USC Peter Stark alumnus and independent producer based out of LA and China.

Panelists:

Jonathan Papish: Jonathan Papish is a box-office analyst at China Film Insider. He has worked in a variety of roles in media and education throughout China. Jonathan was a social media and digital assistant for dGenerate Films, a distributor of Chinese contemporary independent cinema, and, most recently, he covered the Chinese market for BoxOffice.com. Jonathan is also an audiovisual Mandarin-to-English translator and has subtitled several high-profile Mainland films and television programs.

Robert Cain: A CEO, writer, and producer, Robert Cain has worked for more than 20 years in Hollywood and the global entertainment industry, primarily as a production, finance, strategy and creative development expert. He has been doing business in China since 1987, where he has produced and consulted for a range of projects such as the TV broadcast Three Tenors in the Forbidden City, the 2008 Academy Award nominated film Mongol, and the film Shanghai Kiss starring Kelly Hu and Hayden Panettiere. In addition, he has acted as consultant to Shanghai Media Group, CCTV, China Film Group, and most Hollywood studios.

Yuan Yuan: Born and raised in Shangdong province in China, Yuan Yuan attended Beijing Film Academy for college and then obtained MFA from University of Southern California Peter Stark Producing Program. With years of studying and working experience, she is now actively involved in the film business across China and the U.S.. Her previous work varies from China-Korea-US coproduction series “Dramaworld”, which is on Netflix and Youku, and Chinese theatrical film “Dream Breaker”, which is financed by Jetavana and set to release in 2018.
