Applications are invited for the Handa Chair of Japanese-Chinese Relations (including the wider East Asian cultural sphere) within the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures. This Chair position was initiated, funded by and named after Dr Haruhisa Handa, chairman of Worldwide Support for Development.

We are seeking candidates for the role of Chair of Japanese-Chinese Relations with experience of Japanese studies to work within our Centre for Asian Studies. One of only a few Centres in the UK our Chinese, Japanese and Sanskrit subject areas are sector leading and are a growing focus for the School. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with ambition, drive and an appetite to shape and lead the Japanese Studies area through their own expertise but with the leadership qualities to develop the current team now and into the future. With a need to enhance our international relationships, a commitment to teaching and bringing research expertise in Japanese-Chinese or Korean relations, in society, politics or culture, the successful candidate will be a forward thinking and ambitious academic leader. You will have exceptional leadership skills, management ability, academic standing and have the personal qualities and skills to work across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

This is a full time and open ended post.
