I have gotten involved in Intramural Sports during my Freshman year. I have participated in intramural volleyball, basketball and soccer with a lot of my friends.

These have been my mentors within Delta Sigma Pi. Garrett, a graduating senior this year, is moving to Seattle to work in sales. Mark, a sophomore, is an accounting major within Fisher College. They have taught me a lot about interviewing skills, professional development and have made my Freshman year great.

During Freshman year I became a brother of the Professional Fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. There are 130 brothers, men and women, and we aim to become as professional as possible within the Fisher College of Business.

2015-2016 Year in Review
In August of 2015, I arrived at Ohio State University feeling like just a number of the Freshman class. Now, in May of 2016, I leave Freshman year having joined a couple of valuable organizations and meeting some of the best friends I could have asked for. I hope to take the momentum I gained through the professional fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi and the other organizations into Sophomore year to continue to have a tremendously successful college career.

The artifact is my group’s UN Millennium Goal Presentation/Project. We worked on it for a few weeks during our seminar class for IA Scholars. In the beginning of November, we presented our goal, which was to Develop a Global Partnership for Development, to the class. For our presentation, we focused on the region of the Middle East. I learned about the discrimination that affects developing or under-developed countries. Often times, in this world, developed countries progress at the expense of the undeveloped countries. Becoming aware of some of these discriminatory ideas will help me to think and act more fairly, to try to progress myself without it becoming a burden for someone else. The UN Millennium Goals can apply all over the world, on many different scales and I am going to implement the goals into my own, individual life.
About Me
My name is Matthew McKelvey and I am a first year student from Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am the middle child in my family surrounded my an older and a younger sister. I have gone to private schools all my life, including an all boys high school. Going to a large state school is definitely a change of pace for me. I am planning on double majoring in Finance and Mandarin Chinese. I have already taken four years of Chinese in high school and one of my main academic goals at OSU is to become fluent in the language. Chinese has become one of my academic passions because I think it is fascinating and I hope it opens up many doors for me in the business world. I plan to study abroad to China during the summers going into junior and senior year. I also enjoy playing sports, primarily basketball. I have played soccer and basketball for a very long time, competitively and recreationally. I have been a fan of Ohio State athletics ever since I can remember so turning down the acceptance letter would have been very difficult and I cannot wait to start my time in Columbus.
