As a biology major on a premed track, I am excited about all the great opportunities that I have to learn more about medicine. Before I started my education at The Ohio State University, I spent a summer volunteering at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. I was able to work in many different parts of the hospital, the most important to me being the Pediatric Wing. I spent my days transporting patients from room to room and delivering medication, but I also was able to just entertain and play with the kids. That summer I finally realized what I really wanted to do; I had always been interested in surgery, but now I knew that I wanted to be a pediatric surgeon. High hopes I know, but it really is what I want to do.

One of the many highlights of my freshman year at OSU was a small tour and presentation at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Just seeing the place made me excited for what I could potentially be doing in my future. Our presentation included learning about newly developed treatments for diseases and many ongoing research projects which for the first time caught my interest as I was never a fan of the idea of research. This experience made me even more confident about my plan for my future.

In the future, I am hoping to start working at Ohio State’s campus hospital and getting even more involved in medicine.
