G.O.A.L.S.

To help better my global awareness during my time at The Ohio State University, I plan on taking classes to help better my awareness about the politics and events happening around the world. As an International Studies major, it is important for me to leave college with a strong understanding of the different problems happening around the world. I hope to become more educated on the different cultures, beliefs, and policies of other countries through debate-focused classes offered for honors students. Additionally, I hope to study abroad while at OSU. I believe that the only way to really learn is through experience, and studying abroad in Spain will help me in mastering Spanish, which I plan on minoring in, while learning about how the Spanish culture differs from the United States.

During my undergraduate career, I also hope to expand my knowledge through research. One way that I will accomplish this goal is through taking high-level classes relating to my major. By doing this, I will be able to learn more about the world and the problems it is facing today. Using the knowledge gained in these classes, I hope to be able to conduct research in order to figure out how to help fix the problems I learned about.

In order to fully use my time at The Ohio State University best, I hope to take rigorous coursework in both my major and minor classes as well as topics that I am interested about. I want to be prepared for the real world and the career I ultimately pursue. In order to do that, it is essential to take classes that will push me farther than others. Additionally, taking harder classes to obtain my gen. ed. requirement will help me to grow and obtain a stronger base level for knowledge needed in the real world. Although during college I hope to grow in more then just my academic pursuits, the main reason that I am here is to get the best education possible, and this is only achievable by taking the classes that will push me to learn as much as possible.

As an international studies major, it is important for me to leave college as a leader. The only way to make changes in the world is to step up and start being the change yourself, so it is important for me to work on and improve the qualities needed to be a good leader. In order to do this, I plan on joining clubs that will help me learn how to be a leader like the Leading Women of Tomorrow Group at OSU. I also hope to become more involved in clubs that are not necessarily related to leadership but are focused on things that I am interested in. By becoming more involved in these clubs, I hope to be able to set an example for my peers.

Being involved in helping to better my community is something that has always been important to me. Currently, I participate in volunteering activities through the St. Tomas Moore catholic center located on campus. By volunteering through my church, I am able to give back to my community while growing my connection with God. This has always been my favorite way to volunteer, and I have participated in numerous service trips through my church in Toledo, Ohio while growing up. I hope to continue with this throughout my time at OSU.
