Final Strategic Life Plan Reflection

The strategic life plan has helped me to garner a better understanding of the future path I wish to pursue, starting with this semester. It has helped me to better visualize what I need to do now to lead to success in my future, and given me a clearer grasp on my long term goals and what it is going to take to achieve them.

I plan finishing my BA in speech and hearing sciences at the Ohio State University. Afterwards, I would like to pursue a master’s in Speech Pathology. Graduate school is not an easy goal, but I believe with the right determination I can get in and thrive. Getting in and succeeding in Graduate school will require a lot of hard work, but coupled with passion for the subject matter I feel as if it is attainable.

Although graduate school is an important goal for me, it comes behind several more important things in my life. My faith, my family, and my health are all things that, after evaluation, I need to remind myself are more important than my career or money. Prioritizing things is a key to my decision making over the next four years and through the rest of my life. At the end of the day, I need to put the most focus and effort into the things that mean the most to me, and I may need to sacrifice things that are not as important to me. Only time will tell what I need to give up in order to protect my priorities.

This is a picture of my friends and me at our high school graduation. It is a good reminder that family and friends are some of the most important things in my life and that I need to prioritize in my life.

This is the logo of a developmental disabilities school and home in my hometown. It’s a great reminder of the kind of work I want to do.

About Me

My name is Katie McCarthy and I am a first year at Ohio State University. My major is Speech and Hearing Sciences and I am on the pre-physical therapy track. I want to be a pediatric therapist of some type when I finish school, but I am not sure if I want to be a physical, occupational, or speech therapist. I really want to learn sign language, so I am very excited for that opportunity at Ohio State. I learn best through hands-on activities and visual aids. Go Bucks!
