Biography

Julie was a Graduate Teaching Associate for The Ohio State University Department of Teaching and Learning while pursuing a PhD in STEM Education, with a specialization in Technology and Engineering Education. She was an instructor for the Literacy, New Media, and Creative Pedagogies for Classrooms course for Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education students in the Early Childhood Education, Middle Childhood Education, and Child & Youth Studies programs. For three years, Julie was a supervisor for BSEd and MEd students in Middle Childhood Education.

With over 20 years of teaching experience in grades 4-12 and higher education, Julie is most concerned with instructional strategies that promote and support the engagement and motivation of students through technology-based learning environments. Her dissertation top is Transformational Teaching & Learning Modeled in a Flipped Classroom Environment. She examined how the nature of preservice teachers’ use of technology is impacted in a preparation course in which the instructor modeled technology integration, project-based learning, and 21st century learning in a flipped classroom environment. As a result of her research, Julie designed a transformational teaching & learning conceptual model for teacher preparation.

During the 2018-2019 academic year, Julie served her second term as President of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Researchers & Educators of The Ohio State University (STEMERS-OSU). She also served as a mentor for engineering camps sponsored by the OSU K-12 Engineering Outreach Program, and has worked as a Student Associate for a STEM+C NSF Grant and engineering camps with the Center for Automotive Research within the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University.
