Columbus To-Do List

Our group decided to go to Boo at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on October 27. We saw many animals including, gorillas, bonobos, elephants, penguins, manatees, and bears. We also saw many little kids and families dressed up in costumes as well as Halloween festivities including pumpkins with the animals and candy stations for the children. We went in the afternoon and it surprisingly wasn’t too chilly. My favorite part was seeing the elephants and in that area they had a Halloween festival theme with decorations and displays of beautifully carved pumpkins of the animals By I believe a local artist. I Would probably go to the zoo sooner than October because certain animals and places were closed such as Africa so we didn’t get to see the giraffes. I would definitely go back to the Columbus zoo and recommend it to friends. I think going in December during the Wildlights would be a fun group of activity.

Taking the VIA Character Strengths test I discovered my strengths. The top five were honesty, fairness, kindness, humor, and humility. This is an accurate description of some things I value in life and in myself. I always want people to know they are equal and not to hold themselves to lower standards because the person they aspire to be and the goals the hope to reach they can and will with the right work ethic and help. I love to have fun and joke around with friends even if they don’t always think I’m funny I have found that it is good to laugh at yourself and sometimes it’s what you need to do to feel better and brush things off. My friends and family know me as an honest person, I like to tell people how I feel about things because the truth comes out eventually when people lie but, I’m not saying I’m perfect, everyone has told lies in their life.

Artifact 1

My artifact is the front of my binder. Throughout high school, I saw many changes from who I was as a person to changes in the people I was surrounded by. I found myself going through many hard emotional, physical, and mentally straining situations. I made this as a reminder that in times of struggle to push through because I know I am strong enough. Most of the pictures are quotes but some pictures are of family trips or family members I have lost. One of them is my great-grandma and the other shows my grandpa. They were some of the most kind-hearted, loving people. I know how much they loved and believed in me and I use that to give me strength when I doubt myself. I believe this best shows what I enjoy and value most in life.

Hello! My name is Riley Maxstead and I’m from Whitehall, Ohio which is a suburb of Columbus. I come from a somewhat small town and a big family with lots of cousins to run around with during the holidays. I am a pre-Biomedical Engineering major with the goal of working with either artificial organs or machines in hospitals such as the dialysis machine. I am currently involved in a few STEM groups on campus such as STEM Outreach and Society of Women in Engineering. I graduated from Whitehall Yearling High School with honors and some college credit plus classes under my belt, Go Rams! My family has two dogs and they are the sweetest! I enjoy playing with them and taking them on walks. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, playing with my dogs, eating pizza, and watching movies with friends.
