Focus Areas

For our Foundational Focuses Initiative launching in Autumn of 2019, The Maximin Project will divide its on-campus efforts at The Ohio State University into four focus area committees. Each committee is responsible for creating at least one on-campus project or event that aids in addressing a particular challenge facing our global community or contributes to discussing or realizing a vision of a better world. These focus areas are adapted directly from the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2019, which can be found here.

Global Health, World Hunger, & Clean Water

The Maximin Project is committed to empowering students with opportunities to make a difference in the world by creating, sponsoring, and supporting causes that:

  • Address issues of global health by aiding in ensuring quality health and well-being in the poorest parts of the world.
  • Address issues of world hunger by supporting efforts to end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round.
  • Address issues of clean water by aiding worthy projects and programs that effectively provide access to safe, clean drinking water to areas where they are needed most in the world.

Education & Economic Empowerment

The Maximin Project is committed to empowering students with opportunities to make a difference in the world by creating, sponsoring, and supporting causes that:

  • Address issues of education disparities by supporting worthy projects that seek to educate the least-advantaged in the world- with an emphasis on those living in the poorest parts of the world, marginalized genders and identities, and those in vulnerable situations.
  • Empower communities in the developing world with economic opportunity.

Environment & Sustainability

The Maximin Project is committed to empowering students with opportunities to make a difference in the world by creating, sponsoring, and supporting causes that:

  • Recognize the state of our natural world and the impending threat that climate change poses to our global community and future generations.
  • Advocate for sustainability on every level and support causes that address environmental injustice- especially considering that the worst consequences of climate change will be endured first and most heavily by the developing world.

Gender, Race, & Inequality

The Maximin Project is committed to empowering students with opportunities to make a difference in the world by creating, sponsoring, and supporting causes that:

  • Empower important projects, dialogues, and activist movements concerned with gender identity, correcting global disparities surrounding sex and gender, respecting the rights of indigenous peoples, and ensuring an appreciation for the dignity and worth of all human beings.
  • Address issues of race by promoting sustained dialogue on racial identity and uplifting marginalized voices.
  • Recognize global inequalities perpetuated by global systemic mechanisms and support efforts to address these challenges.
