Explore Columbus Part 2

The second stop on the coffee of Columbus adventures was to the Keruoac coffee. This was the most “hole in the wall” feel for a coffee shop with all sorts of vintage record albums and memorabilia. I didn’t order anything but I heard it was pretty average tasting. It’s a really chill place to hang, especially if you’re feeling extra hipster.

The next destination was to Impero. This was a fairly fancy building, but was still a bit limited on seating. Again I didn’t get anything to drink here (sorry I just don’t like coffee or tea, about the only two things available) but I enjoyed the environment and service was really nice.

The second to last place was to ZenCha Tea. This was probably my least favorite place, not that it was bad, but it was the least fitting to me. Kate and Nick had some special tea I can’t remember but they said it was pretty good. They definitely deserve to be a tea shop, considering the majority of the wall was covered in different tea bags. If you’re into tea, you’ll be into this shop.

The last coffee shop we went to was Cup O’ Joe down the road. This was probably my favorite shop because they’re were a surprisingly large amount of space and people, especially at around 7 in the afternoon. There was a fireplace in the center of the room and I thought that was a pretty nice touch. Made it feel a lot more welcoming for sure. I actually got an elvish smoothie from here which was just banana and chocolate but I really enjoyed it.

Well that’s about it. It was a blast getting around Columbus, searching for these hardly noticeable shops tucked away into the buildings. This actually lead us to find a lot more about Columbus, at least along High st. Speaking of there are so many coffee and tea shops just along High it’s crazy. I come from a small town area so there weren’t any coffee shops for miles. It was really interesting indulging myself into a much more city culture and a ton of fun getting to do this with some great friends, even if I was just getting dragged along because they wanted coffee. I wouldn’t mind doing some more snooping around Columbus. It was just so enjoyable running around town being a goofball and all. One thing I really liked about choosing coffee shops as our destinations was that it forced us to reach outside of just one area of Columbus, and by that I mean the extent of where the 2 bus goes, but still that’s a pretty big area to cover. So overall I enjoy this assignment tremendously. It was something I would have never normally done and I’m really glad we did it.

Journal 5 G.O.A.L.S.

I really enjoyed my first semester at OSU. It’s honestly been one of the best times of my life that I’ll never forget. Ironically enough the scholars program has been the biggest reason for it. If it wasn’t for scholars I would never have met the great friends I have now and done have the things we’ve done together, like the canoe trip, cleaning up Goodale Park, and living all on the same floor have brought us all together more than I’ve really ever been to any other friends from before college. I definitely would like to continue at least some kind of similar program as scholars, if not scholars. I think it’s made me into a better person and I want to keep doing things like this. As for my major I really enjoy architecture and will keep going with that. I’m actually going to be working in a co-op over the summer just down the road in Columbus, really looking forward to that. Also next semester I’m going to Santiago, Chile for spring break and that will be a blast for sure.

FOTO Project

My FOTO project experience could have been a little better. The group idea selection part went well. We all brain stormed our own ideas and discussed which one we liked the most. But then the actual making the presentation part seemed a bit more distanced. After we decided on the site and idea we made pairs to divide the work, which was fine. So about a week before presentations, I ask the group if they had any ideas for the part I was supposed to do, but i guess it was pretty much finished so that was it. I feel bad for not contributing more but it’s not like I wasn’t going to do my part. So the only issue I had was there actually not being enough work for all of us I guess. If I had to change anything about the project in general, I’d recommend smaller groups of maybe 3 or 4. It felt like 5 people made it a little difficult to evenly divide the work and have everyone on the same page.

Artifacts

My group of friends decided on exploring the many coffee and tea shops in order to fuel their coffee addiction. Personally I don’t drink or enjoy coffee, but we all have to make sacrifices in our lives for the ones we love. The thing I look forward to most from these adventures is mostly just becoming familiar with downtown Columbus and enjoy some quality time with some lifelong friends. What I want most out of this assignment is pretty much what I’m looking forward to. Just getting myself out of my room and getting around town to have fun. After having our first little adventure into town, I’m really looking forward to the next few. It was like going out with my new little family and was just a good time. Speaking of our first time out, We all decided to check out the Mission Coffee shop as our first destination. Again, I don’t even drink coffee, but I still enjoyed a nice mocha latte. Actually I didn’t think it was that great, but according to the coffee experts it was pretty high quality. I guess I just don’t have the taste for coffee or something. I would definitely recommend it to anyone else who enjoys coffee though. It has a very nice and humble design and feel to it. Very hipster like. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in there too. Everyone was pretty chill and it felt private, but everyone was still around each other. So yeah I really enjoyed it and will probably get dragged down there again at some point for everyone else to get some coffee, which is perfectly fine with me.

About Me

Ohio State has always been incredibly important to me. With pride installed into by my dad and grandma who both went to and were huge supporters of the scarlet and grey. So going to Ohio State is a dream I’ve always had, and now it’s finally come true! Welcome week was pretty good for me. I never really knew what to expect for the start of college, but I was not disappointed by any means. I actually appreciate being in an older dorm because it reminds me of what my dad must have felt like when he went through college. As to what I expected for classes though, I was actually really surprised. I never realized how much drawing and art I would have to do and how long these projects would actually take. Plus we have to actually figure out a way to do half of them on our own. Adjusting to college life has not really been too bad. I still wake up and have breakfast, just now I have friends to eat with rather than family. In the end I wouldn’t be surprised to see them as family though. So college hasn’t been too far off of what I had expected over the summer, and I’m looking forward to what it has in store for me!
