G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: As a student at The Ohio State University, I hope to further my global awareness through the people that are surrounding me at OSU, as well as the coursework and activities that I take part in while on campus. The people I meet everyday will be from different backgrounds, and I plan on being open to everyone as well as their ideas and culture, however I also would like to look into study abroad programs, so that I can get an even deeper understanding of the world around me rather than just the small world that I am a part of.

Original Inquiry: It is my goal while here at OSU to be able to better understand what type of research is being done in my field, or a related one, in order to obtain a better understanding of said field, and to create a deeper understanding of the topic the research is on. Being able to help with research would be the best way to understand how it all works, and I would like to be able to do research on a topic that interests me with a professor that I can connect with as well.

Academic Enrichment: I chose actuarial science as my major because I believe that it will be something that will interest me, and be able to hold my interest for a long time because of the nature of the major itself, and its inherent difficulty. I want to be able to learn as much as possible, while enjoying what I am learning in order, keep the desire to learn within me alive, and I believe that actuarial science is the best major for me in that sense.

Leadership Development: I am incredibly interested in finding an internship as soon as I possibly can. I believe that this would not only help prepare me for the working environment, but it would also help develop my leadership abilities, especially how they relate to the field that I plan on entering after graduation. Student organizations can also impact my leadership development, even if it is something as simple as an intramural sports team.

Service Engagement: Service to the community around me has always been an important aspect of my life, as I feel it is important give back to the community around me, which has given me so much. Through service, I can also gain an understanding of those that I am helping, or a situation that may not be gaining enough coverage in mainstream media, which will only allow me to be able to help in a more efficient way in the future.

About Me

Hello, my nae is Brendan Martin, and I am currently attending the Ohio State University. I am from a small town in Massachusetts, and some from a High School with a graduating class of around ninety. I decided to come to Ohio State in order to have a completely different type of experience, as I wanted to know what it felt like to be at a school with a large number of students, and what it was like when there was actually school spirit, and pride. In my free time I enjoy being with my friends doing just about anything whether it is golfing, going out to eat, or even just staying in and doing nothing.
