What is the purpose of becoming a certified nurse?

Through certification nurses demonstrate that they have the advanced knowledge, skill-set and professional expertise to deliver the highest quality of care to a specific population of patients and their families.

The Martha Morehouse Professional Development team has developed resources on OCN certification. Please review the document OCN Certification Starter Kit for the following information:

How do we apply the continuing education (CE) hours earned in the journal club to maintenance of OCN certification?

Individual Learning Needs Assessment (ILNA) is completed upon renewal of certification. The assessment identifies your current knowledge strengths and weaknesses. Professional development activities are then completed as required by the results of the assessment. CEs earned through participation in the journal club can be used to fulfill these requirements. Many of us find the process of determining which category a particular offering fits into difficult.

This video, Where Do My Certification Renewal Points Fit In, explains this process.
