Artifact #2

I chose to use a poster for mental health as my 2nd Artifact for several reasons. Being on a college campus with students from all age ranges has opened my eyes to the different stressors that could be occurring in our lives. For 1st years, our stress involves being on our own for the first time and being away from our family. A 4th year could be dealing with the stress of trying to do everything this degree requires. As college students, it is important for us to be aware of our mental health and for those who struggle with mental disorders such as anxiety to have to support system in order to deal with them. Unfortunately, there have been some incidents with students on this campus were not able to properly care for themselves and their mental health. I have observed some of my closest friends being taken over by their mental issues due to the stress that college brings to students as well as myself. These issues have striked my interest in learning more about mental health and how if affects people differently. Being a young African American woman, it is important for me to be aware that mental health awareness is not greatly promoted in my community which leads us to have more mental disorders. This is something that I would consider getting involved in research with.

Artifacts

I chose to make the subject of Psychology my very first artifact. I chose this class out of the rest for several reasons. For one, I believe that this class both challenges and excites me the most. It is also the most demanding and time consuming class that I have but I enjoy learning about human psychology. My goal after undergrad is to go to medical school and it is helpful for any student taking the MCAT exam to have a good understanding of Psychology 1101. Understanding the different parts of the brain and the nervous systems that allow us to perform several actions is very fascinating to me and makes me eager to learn more. I have enjoyed the challenges that this class has bestowed upon me so far this semester. My goal for this class is to end with an A by the end of the semester. This will take a lot of outside study time as well as attending office hours if I need help with any of the material. I know that the information that I learn from this class with follow me up until I am ready to take the MCAT for medical school. Taking this course as early as my first semester of college will help me more forward in other courses that will prepare me for what’s in store after the next four years.
