Chase decided her major by a personal experience when she was younger passing out tic-tacs as medication to everyone and she was highly influenced throughout her life to go to be a pharmaceutical technician. Her favorite place to study on campus besides her room would be 12th street bread company. Her most challenging major course is chemistry. Her advice to get through the class would be to use TA hours and to study with the class instead of cramming a week before the exam.
Chase decided to get involve by joining the pharmacy club. She selected a club that was related to major and that had a lot of volunteering. She volunteered at a charitable pharmacy. She got involved through the major and involvement fair and academic adviser. Some benefits Chase has received from getting involved outside of the classroom was experience and friends.
Chase has grown since her participation with ENR scholars because she now recycles when she never did before. She never thought twice about the environment until after entering program. Some of the opportunities she was glad she participated in was the camping trip, the planetarium and learning how to use a compass. The best advice she had for making the most out of ENR is if you are free and you have the time sign up for the events.
Chase plans to go to pharmacy school and then get a residency. Her dream job is becoming a pediatric pharmacist. She has always wanted to work with kids. Her back-up plan is just working in a retail pharmacy instead of a hospital.
Some ways that Chase balanced academics and involvement was by reserving hours for homework and then look at all the other hours and decide what you can afford to get involved in. Also, to give yourself breaks don’t constantly study but go out and get involved to give your mind a break. One of the most important things learned thus far for Chase was becoming more independent and being able to choose her own friends. In high school you were friends with whoever was around you since you had to spend hours a day with them. Whereas here you choose who you are friends with and you don’t feel obligated to be friends with those you have class with. Some advice she wishes she would have gotten her freshman year would be to be more sociable. Also reach out more and don’t accept the first people you meet, and to leave your dorm.
