VIA strengths

My top five VIA strengths are: Fairness, honesty, judgment, perseverance and spirituality.

Fairness means treating all people the same according to notions of fairness and justice; not letting feelings bias decisions about others; giving everyone a fair chance.

Honesty means speaking the truth but more broadly presenting oneself in a genuine way and acting in a sincere way; being without pretense; taking responsibility for one’s feelings and actions.

Judgment means thinking things through and examining them from all sides; not jumping to conclusions; being able to change one’s mind in light of evidence; weighing all evidence fairly.

Perseverance means finishing what one starts; persevering in a course of action in spite of obstacles; “getting it out the door”; taking pleasure in completing tasks.

Spirituality means having coherent beliefs about the higher purpose and meaning of the universe; knowing where one fits within the larger scheme; having beliefs about the meaning of life that shape conduct and provide comfort.

These five strengths describe me very well. Even though I can be a very blunt and honest person I value fairness most of all. I try not to let my feelings get in the way of things and I try to keep things fair for everyone. When things come up that needs my judgment I look at things from all sides and then make a decision based on what I think is the best option. Since I was young I have always tried in some form persevered through things that were hard and challenging in my life. Lately I have had to persevere through difficult situations with my transition from high school to college, the loss of my grandma, and getting through my first set of midterms. Lastly, spirituality is a big part of my life and I value it just as much as the rest, I go to church just about every Sunday and Tuesday when they have the college student Bible study in Derby Hall. I believe these strengths describe me perfectly in this order. Out of my list of strengths I wish my love of learning was higher up in the list then it is. But my favorite strength by far is perseverance.
