Larinia directa

The orbweaver Larinia directa is sometimes difficult to find. They appear as adults relatively late in the summer or autumn, and they seem to be strictly nocturnal. The long narrow abdomen, marked with a series of parallel lines is distinctive of this genus.  A similar species L. borealis is also found in Ohio.
