PROSPECTIVE GRADUATE STUDENTS:
Dr. Cheavens will NOT be reviewing applications for the 2025-2026 academic year.
When you are applying to graduate school, it can be difficult to know whether or not a particular mentor or research group would be a good match for you. In the MAPS lab, we are committed to engaging in research that contributes to efforts to generate and disseminate evidence-based treatments for personality and mood disorders as well as efforts to build resilience and promote well-being, more generally. We are looking to welcome graduate students who are invested in and curious about ways to move these research questions forward and want to make research part of their career trajectory. To be a competitive applicant for a graduate student position in the MAPS lab, applicants should demonstrate research interests consistent with our work, previous research experience, a track record of high quality academic work, evidence of asking for and accepting feedback, and evidence of getting along well with collaborators and co-workers, specifically working well with others and demonstrating accountability.
It makes sense that potential applicants would want to connect with Dr. Cheavens prior to submitting applications. However, given the number of potential applicants, it is not possible to have these types of meetings with everyone who might be interested. In order to maintain a fair selection process, Dr. Cheavens will not meet with any potential individual applicants, either virtually or in-person, prior to official interview offers. She also will not provide any evaluation of applications prior to submission. Feel free to reach out to the graduate students for questions about the program or the MAPS lab.
