Year in Review

While freshman year may have been a year of adjustment, I think that sophomore year has been a year of growth. After laying a foundation for success, I have seen my personal, professional and co-curricular self develop tremendously this year.

The friends I made through the Business Scholars Program remain some of my very best friends to this day. With them, I was able to navigate the process of living off-campus next year and signed for my first apartment. This year has been so important to  me in discovering who my true friends are and investing in the relationships that I know will transcend the 4 years of college. I think I’ve matured a lot this year in terms of understanding what is truly important to me, and learning how to prioritize those things over other more superfluous activities. Although academically this year has been very stressful, I’ve tried to maintain a greater appreciation for the opportunities I have been given and make the most of my time at Ohio State.

Professionally, this year I really solidified my career interests in consulting and social impact. After getting involved with the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club my freshman year, I pinpointed consulting as a potential career and that interest has only grown. This year, I built upon that momentum by joining the Fisher Emerging Consultants program, networking with professionals in the industry, and will be traveling to Brazil for one month this summer to work on a consulting project with Greif. Following that, I will be interning with Teach for America which is right in the vein of my second interest: social impact. After being an advocate for education throughout my childhood, I became involved with TFA this year as an outlet for that passion. I was accepted to their spring break leadership & service program, and after participating in that I decided to accept my internship offer with them for this summer. I’m really excited to continue to build out my knowledge in the social and nonprofit space and gain experience in that realm. Aside from those major themes, I have continued to attend workshops and conferences throughout the year to help me network, polish my resume/cover letter skills, practice interviewing, etc.

In terms of extracurricular activities, this year has also been really intense. I have continued my involvement on the executive board of Peers Advancing Literacy in Students as Vice President of Marketing, done two more projects for the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club while acting on the project sourcing committee as well, done tours and held office hours every week as a Fisher Ambassador, served as a Research Assistant in the Department of Sociology, and perhaps the thing I am most excited about, have finally been able to get a project of mine off the ground: Behavioral Economics Club. As Founder & President, the student organization has been taking up a lot of my time but has been really rewarding. There were definitely some learning curves as it was our first year trying it out, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the club grows in the future. Finally, I’ve been recently accepted into the 22nd Honors Cohort Program. I’ve heard from many upperclassmen mentors how truly transformational this program has been for them, and I’m excited to see how it will help affect my own college experience.

Artifacts

Mantena_Chipotle_Exec_Summary-2hdeoy7

My first artifact is the executive summary I wrote this semester for our preliminary case competition in BUCC, the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club. We were tasked to develop a presentation and comprehensive recommendation as to whether or not Chipotle should expand past it’s current model into full-service, sit down restaurants. This summary is an overview of my thought process and presentation by highlighting my primary arguments and evidence to support them.

As someone who wants to pursue a career in consulting post-graduation, I think it’s noteworthy to include my first foray into industry research and strategic thinking as part of my portfolio. I think I was adeptly able to showcase some of my communicative strengths in this summary as well through my use of concise language and a well organized layout.

I’m excited by what I’ve been able to learn so far through BUCC, and also excited to see how I improve upon this after completing my training program and getting more hands-on experience in consulting on projects for external companies. I had so much fun getting to practice my creative thinking and analysis skills while coming up with solutions for the  issue posed, and participating in clubs like BUCC and working on these cases has strengthened my conviction that consulting is for me and I’m looking forward to further developing these skills.

About Me

The thing that I’m most passionate about in life is humanity – connecting with other people, learning their stories, and using that information to make an impact on the world around me. That’s why I’m a first year Marketing student, also choosing to enhance my specialization with minors in Economics, Professional Writing, and Philosophy. In the future, I visualize myself combining these disciplines to work professionally in a consulting, strategy, or branding position.

I’m hoping to put my passion to good use by continuously striving to better myself personally and professionally. I am heavily engaged in my community at Ohio State, and deeply committed to the people and teams I lead. Currently, I serve as a founding executive board member and Vice President of Marketing for West Mound Pen Pals, practice data visualization techniques as a Business Analyst for the Buckeye Undergraduate Consulting Club, develop my advertising skills as part of the Marketing Team for Fisher Ink, and engage with my peers as a Student Tour Guide and member of the Business Scholars program. I also work to integrate my passions outside of Ohio State and my connections within it, serving as a Campus Brand Representative for the New York Times and helping to champion their mission of keeping students well informed and participatory with the world around them.

Besides all that, I love to read, travel, watch stand-up comedy and attend concerts. “Many things will catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart.” I’m energized and excited about the things I do, and am a firm believer that as long as you’re doing what you love, happiness is always within reach.

As an incurable caffeine-holic, I’m always eager to sit down and talk over a cup of coffee.
