Publication Alert! The Effects of Knee Osteoarthritis on Neural Activity During a Motor Task: A Scoping Systematic Review

Excited for our scoping review to be In Press. Check out the Pre-proof in the journal Gait & Posture:

Cody J. Mansfield, Adam Culiver, Matthew Briggs, Laura C. Schmitt, Dustin R. Grooms and James Oñate, The Effects of Knee Osteoarthritis on Neural Activity during a Motor Task: A Scoping Systematic Review, Gait & Posture, (2021)

I presented this project last year as a platform presentation for the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting. You can view the presentation by clicking on the link below:

Publication alert! Physical therapists have good reliability when measuring the frontal plane projection angle.

We are excited about our most recent publication in The Knee journal!

Mansfield, C. J., Rethman, K. K., Stephens, J., Di Stasi, S., Vanetten, L., & Briggs, M. S. (2022). The association and reliability of the frontal plane projection angle during the lateral step down test on knee function in patients with patellofemoral pain. The Knee, 36, 87-96.

The article can be downloaded here: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.knee.2022.04.010

The first 50 that download the article get it for free:

Data for this project was collected in the Summer of 2019 and took the coordination of several physical therapists. Nice to see it in print!

HRS Research Day 2022

Had a great time presenting our preliminary data at the first HRS Research Day last Friday!

The oral presentation took home 2nd place!

Also, I was incredibly fortunate to receive the Rosita Schiller Research Award to support more research.

Publication Alert: Understanding social determinants of health and physical therapy outcomes in patients with low back pain: A scoping review protocol. Musculoskeletal care.

Excited to launch this project and get moving on it! Great authorship team!

Publication Alert: Biomechanical variations in children who are overweight and obese during high‐impact activities: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

Proud of our DPT student for getting this systematic review and meta-analysis published in Obesity Reviews in an open access journal.  Read it for free!

CSM 2022 San Antonio Texas

I finally have time to share some photos and highlights from CSM 2022. I was surprised I had to wear a winter coat, but the tail of the ice storm that hit Columbus also affected Texas.

If you didn’t know… This is where posters come from. 😉

Every time I have to print a poster, it never goes to plan. After about an hour of various attempts, it worked!

Had a sweet hotel and it was nice to catch up with friends and take a break from clinic and school work.

Hopefully this reliability study will be coming to a journal this year. It establishes the reliability of physical therapists using 2D video analysis software to measure the frontal plane projection angle.

If you’re in San Antonio, you have to see the Alamo.

However, I would also recommend the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum. During prohibition the Saloon owner had to bring in his collection of animals and make ends meet by charging tickets for the public to view the collection.

Lastly, I’m proud of our OMPT Fellow graduate for his poster on Do Residency/Fellowship Graduates have Difference Career Trajectories Compared to non-Residency/Fellowship graduates?

Impressive work, and hopefully will be featured in a journal soon.

Wrap up post for 2021

After September, it felt like a land slide to the end of year. Went by in a flash and never had time to post. Here are the highlights:

New publication in Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy

JMMT received a letter to the editor from Dr. Landel of the University of Southern California in regard to our systemic review on the Sharp Purser Test, which showed that the test was unreliable, not valid, and might be unsafe.

Our response to Dr. Landel is in the last edition of JMMT for 2021.
