Volunteer

Was on the Sigma Chi BuckeyeThon team and raised 250$ for the kids and around 4000$ as a fraternity.  Also, will be volunteering for a handful of events for our Sigma Chi Derby Days week  which is a week of philanthropy events which raises money towards Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Career

I am looking to be a business analyst in the future. I have always been very interested in the way a business works and everything that goes into running a business. Also, math comes fairly easy to me and that is where I felt the analytic part would be a good fit. One field of business analytics I am hoping to get into in the future is Sports Analytics. I have had some experiences in work field. I had an internship at InfoWeaver Solutions which is involved with Data Analytics. I also had an internship at Balance Physical Therapy.

Artifacts

My artifact is my gold chain. My grandma gave me the chain before she had passed away. I now use it as motivation for me to work hard and do my best to make her proud. She meant a lot to me and this is my way of remembering her. She had taught me many important values such as kindness, hard work, and many more. The chain helps me remember the importance of all these values. I used this artifact in my first semester to help keep me stay on the right path and always remember what my grandma had taught me. Another artifact that was relevant during my first semester was the gym. The gym consists of playing basketball and working out. The gym was a very valuable artifact because it was my stress reliever. Whenever, I had a long day or had a lot difficult tasks I had to do, the gym was always there to take away my stress and worries for a couple hours. I am always much more productive in whatever I am doing after I come back. I feel a lot happier and lot more relaxed. In college, many students became overworked and too stressed which is very bad for their wellness. It is important to find an activity or something to take your mind off of the work and keep you relaxed. That is the purpose of this artifact. I will use this artifact all throughout my college life. I know that I will have a lot to do in college especially as I become an upper classman and have a lot more work to do. That is why it is important to use this artifact.

About Me

I am Nikhil Manimaran and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University. I was born in San Ramon, California and raised in Salinas, California.  I am a Data Analytics major and looking to minor in business in the hopes of becoming a business analyst. I hope to gain a lot of knowledge and be in a good position after I graduate. My important values and beliefs are family, friendship, hard-work, and loyalty. I try and stick to these values everyday and work hard to stay congruent to them. I am very open to trying new things and meeting new people and that is what led me to going out of state and trying something new. I am very active and love playing sports. During high school I played in the state championship for basketball and was on the baseball team. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Year in Review

The Dunn Sport and Wellness program has opened so many doors for me professionally and personally. First, they have brought in so many influential people to talk to us. Listening to their stories and learning how they made it to where they were today taught me a lot. It made me reevaluate my own major and if it is the right choice for me. I learned that I need to follow what I am passionate about and not what makes the most sense financially. I saw that through the speakers, that if you are passionate about something you will be much more happier and it will lead to much more success. I am guilty of looking into majors that are more beneficial to my wealth than my well being and after the speakers came I was able to change my view.  DSWS has also impacted me personally through the relationships I have made. I found 2 of my adult mentors very early through DSWS which is Brendan and Abigail. I also found a community within Ohio State. I have made so many friends through DSWS as we are all like-minded people with the same goals. I was also able to make really great friends for life and I can thank DSWS for that. The life lessons that I learned from DSWS is, to do what you love and everything else will fall into place. I can see the happiness in everyone that DSWS has brought in and even with the people within DSWS. They followed what they loved to do and I can see how happy they are with their jobs and their lives and I want to experience this in my life. I do not want to be sitting in front of a desk all day and have everyday be a drag of me doing something I do not want to do. DSWS has also helped me build connections in the professional world as they have brought in mentors for us every week that we can contact. Also, the professional workshop helped me a lot. I now understand what to expect in the future job interview and how to prepare for them.

G.O.A.L.S.

As a first year student the G.O.A.L.S are very important.  The G. or global awareness is very important to me. During high school, I took a service trip to Peru to build houses. This fits under the global and service. I am definitely looking to take advantage of opportunities like this in college.
