About Me: Process

Research-

For this project we were asked to listen to and read three articles, blogs, or podcasts talking about ‘good design’ and compare the similarities and differences.

I read articles and blogs from:

  • https://news.artnet.com/art-world/kelly-wearstler-intervie-2001281
  • http://ui-patterns.com/blog/What-is-good-design

Good and Bad Design Exercise

Iterations-

ROUGHLY BLOCKED OUT ITERATIONS OF MY ABOUT ME PAGE LAYOUT: Playing with image location/arrangement relative to text blocks.

Production-

FIRST LAYOUT ATTEMPT

FEEDBACK ON FIRST DRAFT

SECOND DRAFT OF LAYOUT- Removed  line at the top and ‘bio’ header. Changed size and arrangement of cat photos to prioritize written content. Adjusted text size to focus on hierarchy, and created lines within the arrangement of the text and images/

THIRD AND FINAL DRAFT OF ABOUT ME LAYOUT: Adjusted spacing to perfect implied lines, and compressed the format by rearranging photo placement.

Reflection-

Through the production process for this assignment, I learned that given the formatting of this website, it is entirely possible, if not highly likely, for me to over complicate things in the name of aesthetics and making things perfect.  Instead of jumping the gun and trying to put all of my work and passion on my introductory page, I was reminded that there is a time and a place for everything, and sometimes doing too much hurts you and your work more than it helps.  Additionally, I was prompted to dig deeper and pay attention to design principles at play in this assignment: such as implied lines, and hierarchy.
