Project 2: Fire Pit

packing in dirt
We started with this sketch.
One of our main priorities was drainage. But original basin wouldn’t drain…
…so we drilled some holes. Easy!
And dug a hole in the ground.
Then came the mortar.
And boom! We poured and shaped some mortar for our basin to sit in.
We added some extra gravel for below our wall.
And we piled up our rocks to make a wall.

Project 1: Seating Modifications

packing in dirt
We wanted our seating to be more level and more secure than it was before. So for each stump we dug at least an inch inset into the ground. Here you can see Timmy leveling the hole for the third stump.

We then set up our stumps and aligned the railroad ties on top. After tracing those, we cut out an inset for the ties to rest in.

We cleaned up the corners of the insets with a chisel.
using a chainsaw
We cut notches in our railroad ties so they would sit into the insets.
Then we sat.

Acquiring Materials

rocks for transport
We had so many rocks and Timmy’s car was so weighed down that Aaron had to put some between his feet.

We got a lot of supplies including some rocks, a chainsaw, and more from our parents’ homes.
