Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

During my time as an Ohio State Honors and Scholars student, I plan on participating in many clubs and activities and attending many events and functions that satisfy the G.O.A.L.S. of Honors & Scholars as well as further my knowledge and development as a thoughtful and inclusive human. For global awareness, I plan to be an active member of a multicultural or diversity club. I would also like to study abroad during one summer of my undergraduate career. I would enjoy traveling to a country that lacks the healthcare services and resources needed to properly care for their communities. I would love to help a community in need by aiding in the set up free clinics with services such as treatment for routine injuries and long term conditions, medical testings and screenings, mental counseling, and much more. My course work and classes will also reflect my willingness and enthusiasm for a worldwide understanding. I intend to contribute greatly to new thoughts and ideas in the form of research. I have already submitted a medical journal article to be peer reviewed and published, and plan on joining a neuroscience research lab the second semester of my freshman year. The brain is a vast subject full of unknown and misunderstood mechanisms and functions. I intend to learn as much as I can about how people think and behave and form new and evolved concepts that may some day help or heal a person in need. I also plan on taking 4000 and graduate level courses in psychology and neuroscience later on in my undergraduate career. These courses will not only prepare me for medical school, but they will also force me to think in different perspectives and approach problems in different ways. I believed I am pursuing academic enrichment by graduating high school with 34 college credit hours from two different universities. My planned curriculum of a major in psychology and a minor in neuroscience while also taking medical school prerequisite classes will help me with my future aspirations when I apply to medical school and later as a practicing psychiatrist. I plan on being actively involved in the academic clubs that I have joined and intend to run for office in both the Undergraduate Neuroscience Outreach Organization and Women In Surgery Empowerment Club to further my leadership development. I appreciate and admire the guidance and help that I get from upperclassmen and would love to help dedicated and interested students such as myself when they are in the same position as I am now. For service engagement, I will participate in the service and volunteering projects that my clubs organize, as well as apply to be a volunteer at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center or another hospital near campus.

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Ishika. I am from North Canton, Ohio. I am now a freshman at The Ohio State University. My major is in Psychology and I am on the pre-med track. I am also considering picking up a Neuroscience minor. My goal is to eventually become a psychiatrist and work in a hospital. Something more specific about psychology that I find very intriguing are personality disorders.
