Year in Review

Sophomore Year 2018-2019

Global Awareness:

I hoping to be able to complete some form of study abroad experience before my time at Ohio State is up. Being that I am also a varsity student athlete here, I am unable to do a semester abroad; however, I hopefully will be able to travel either next summer, going into senior year, or I can complete a week-long service trip that takes place internationally, which is offered through the athletic department and is a prestigious accomplishment.

Original Inquiry:

Though I have not gotten involved in any research up to this point in my time here, I am hoping that this fall (AU19) I will be able to begin getting involved in some sort of research in a lab here on campus. I would be particularly interested in some sort of medical research, if all of the different aspects of my schedule were to be able to coincide. Along this track, I will be participating in the Huntington Bucks Go Pro 2.0 Internship Program, offered by the athletic department, where I will be stationed at Mount Carmel Hospital and will be gaining firsthand experience and exposure to the everyday life of a medical professional, I’m very excited!

Academic Enrichment:

The rigor of my coursework throughout my 4 undergraduate years is of the highest priority to me. I chose to complete a BS in the Biochemistry major for just that reason! There were many simpler paths which could have been taken to reach my end goal, which is med school, however, I wanted to be challenged by my schoolwork all 4 years as well as gain as much information as I could in the field of science, which is what I’m truly most passionate about. In addition, I am also obtaining a General Psychology minor because that field is also something that greatly interests me. These additional honors courses in psychology help to increase the difficulty of my course work.

Leadership Development:

Being a member of the Ohio State Women’s Lacrosse Team, I get the chance to be a leader every single day when I change into my practice clothes simply by being part of such a prestigious team. In addition to that, this fall I was voted to be a member of the team’s first ever Leadership Council, which is just another added layer of leadership on the team underneath the captains, and it was a very prestigious honor. Now that I will be an upperclassmen moving forward, I look forward to stepping into an even higher leadership role within my team, helping to bring us to more success.

Service Engagement:

During my time here at Ohio State, I have been given many opportunities to attend/work various service events through different organizations. Moving forward, my teammates and I hope to become very involved with one particular organization, rather than many different ones, in order to be able to really build relationships with the people we are interacting with. One organization, in particular, that we are thinking about teaming up with is Nationwide Children’s Hospital which really excites me because it’s always been my dream to work with kids when I am older.
