Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

The five goals that are enumerated as an integral part of the OSU Honors Program will serve to guide me for my time in Honors. These goals serve as a framework to inspire deeper learning and cultural understanding among members of this very prestigious group. I have a tailored, individualized plan for using each GOALS objective as a marker for my academic success. Primarily, I admire the GOALS term that starts with ‘G’, Global Awareness. Global Awareness promotes cultural awareness and respect for diversity, something that the high school that I came from valued very highly. Because of this, I place significant importance on the appreciation of other cultures, for which there are several programs in place at OSU. I would love to learn another language during my time as an undergraduate, and I may even minor in a foreign language. I love learning languages because they convey to me a sense of greater appreciation for other cultures, and I think that this fits under the Global Awareness goal very well. The second GOALS objective is Original Inquiry, which I plan to explore by delving into the research process. I hope to work in a research lab, possibly from my freshman year, in order to further my pursuit of science and a greater understanding of science as a whole. The ‘A’ goal, Academic Enrichment, is something that I plan to pursue for my entire career, academic and otherwise. I currently and will continue to pursue academic enrichment for my entire life; I am a person who loves learning and constantly strives to learn everything possible about my environment at any given time. The ‘L’ goal, Leadership Development, is a goal which will consistently push me out of my comfort zone for my time in Honors. I enjoy leadership development activities, but I have not actively pursued many, so the Leadership Development goal will be a good motivator for me to expand my comfort zone. Finally, the ‘S’ goal, Service Engagement, will be an opportunity for me to explore the confluence of two of my interests: the medical field and giving back to my community. I am deeply interested in the medical field, so I hope to do a lot of volunteering at a local hospital, either in Dayton or Columbus. In addition, I would love to volunteer at a local homeless shelter or some other establishment for the needy, such as a food bank. I believe that it is critically important for everybody to give back, and the Service Engagement goal will help motivate me to do just that.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation.  An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen.
