Reflection on the G.O.A.L.S

  1. Global Awareness: Given that my second major is Spanish, I think that shows my commitment developing global awareness. I also applied for a job this summer in Chile and although it did not work out, I plan to study abroad/travel to South America or Spain at some point during college. Not only does the Spanish major expose me to various cultures, but I am also exploring more than that through some of the other courses I have chosen to take in upcoming semesters such as the History of World War II and Mass Communication in Society.
  2. Original Inquiry: This past summer I was a research intern for a media company which helped me begin to understand the research process. I will also be taking a class soon that focuses strictly on research (Survey Research-Comm 3149), which will further my learning of the topic. Personally, I expand my creativity through Pinterest or reading new books that interest me, which I will continue to do as I work towards this goal.
  3. Academic Enrichment: I think my Honors Contract shows that I am committed to this goal because two majors and a minor is certainly not the easiest path I could have chosen. Whenever an Honors version of a class is available, I always try to fit that in my schedule and take the most rigorous course available. As I get further into my major and minor classes, I get more excited about the future and what job I will end up in. I can continue to work towards this goal by keeping up my GPA and taking a challenging course load each semester.
  4. Leadership Development: I am the Vice President of Membership for Delta Gamma sorority, which is one of the highest leadership positions one can have in the chapter. I will be leading the chapter of over 200 women in the recruitment process, which will give me extensive leadership practice. I learn every day in this position and am becoming a better leader because of it. To be accomplished in any career field, I believe you have to know how to be a successful leader, so my position within the sorority is helping me achieve this.
  5. Service Engagement: I volunteer at the Ohio State School for the Blind regularly with other members of my sorority. I have also volunteered at a dog shelter and participated in several food and clothing drives to benefit charity. I also get involved through other sorority and fraternity’s philanthropies, whether it is making a team for a fundraiser competition or donating. Even after college, I want to continue to volunteer because it helps me stay grounded and be culturally aware.
