About Me

Hello, my name is Alexander Maag. I am a first year STEM EE Scholar and student at The Ohio State University. My goal is to major in Physics with a possible future minor in French during my undergraduate years at OSU. I also plan to earn a PHD in physics in order to become a professor at an institution while doing research. I was born in Kingsport, Tennessee and moved to a small town called Schoolcraft, Michigan before I can remember. During the middle of second grade, my family had to move to Oregon, Ohio due to job cuts at my father’s previous job. I attended Clay High School of Oregon City Schools. I participated in Limelighters (our theatre program), concert band, marching band, and was an officer of the National Honor Society program. I had learned so much from all the faculty, staff, and students from Clay High, but I was ready to move on to bigger things.

Like mentioned above, I was involved in a handful of programs while in High School. During my time while involved with the theatre group, Limelighters, I was known for my roles as Mr. Welch in It’s a Wonderful Life, Maurice in Beauty and the Beast, and, lastly, Big Jules in Guys and Dolls. I also helped behind the scenes in sound tech for a few shows. These shows were South Pacific, Tarzan, Charlotte’s Web, and Little Women.

I also played in the Clay High School marching band and concert band. I had played the alto saxophone since the 6th grade. However, this is not the beginning of my musical career. I had played the clarinet for a year prior to the saxophone due to the requirements to play saxophone in the middle school band. I also took piano lessons since the 1st grade up until high school, so I had a pretty good understanding of music before joining both school’s bands.

Lastly, I was the Vice President of Operations for our high school’s National Honor Society program. This role included updating and accounting for every member’s volunteer hours and working alongside the other 3 Vice Presidents and the President of the program.

Ever since I was very young, I have had an interest in how everything works in the universe. I’ve always been curious on how everything started, and how everything will come to an end. I have always been open to new ideas and will never turn away from a new perspective on a concept. I plan on getting my PHD in physics and become a professor at an institution much like the one I am at now. I have always wanted to conduct research, but I always had the urge to teach people. These two goals pretty much define what becoming a professor will allow me to do.

I am very excited for the upcoming years of my life: meeting new people, learning new things, and becoming a more well-rounded person. I am very happy with the school I chose to attend and look forward to pursuing everything that comes my way.
