Undergraduate Business Women’s Association

This year I had the privilege of being chosen to participate as a mentee in the Undergraduate Business Women’s Association’s 2020-2021 mentorship program.

Throughout this program the mentees and mentors met up to discuss  The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates, a book about empowering women across the world. My mentor is Madison Shimborkse, a senior at Ohio State majoring in information systems, and also the Senior Vice President of UBWA. Going through this book together has helped me learn about what it means to be a working woman in a male dominated industry. Sharing experiences and comparing notes on this book has not only taught me so much about business, but also created a great friendship with someone I might not have met otherwise. I’ve learned the value of sticking up for myself and my ideas, how to communicate with men who may not have respect for women in the workplace and the importance of doing my best work no matter what.

The members of the program also meet up once a month to listen and ask questions to a local businesswoman about her specific experiences. This has fostered a great community of women who empower and encourage one another to keep pushing our limits in the business world.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Global Awareness

I am minoring in both Spanish and international business. Both of these encourage studying abroad, which I hope to do in my years at Ohio State. I am interested in traveling to Spain not only improving in Spanish speaking but also experiencing a different culture. I first went out of the United States in my junior year of high school. Since then I have been itching to travel and see more of the world, and I cannot wait to accomplish this with Ohio State.

Story Map

This is a Story Map of the trip that inspired me to declare international business as my minor.

About Me

Welcome, my name is Annie Lucas and I am pursuing a major in marketing with two minors in Spanish and international business. I am also a part of the Advocates for Communities and Education Scholars (ACES) at Ohio State’s Honors and Scholars Center. ACES has allowed me to witness firsthand the power of education and service at work within not only the Ohio State community, but also in the greater Columbus area.

On campus, I am involved in Cru Ohio State on their Freshman Leadership Team as well as the Real Life Band or the worship team. Within the Fisher College of Business, I am a part of the Undergraduate Business Women’s Association and their 2020-2021 Mentorship Program.

I am from a suburb of Chicago called Wheaton, Illinois. My family is from Ohio, and I definitely grew up a major buckeye fan. While in high school, my choir went on a European concert tour that sparked my love for travel and experiencing new cultures. That experience is responsible for my choice to minor in international business as I aspire to travel as a part of my career one day and also here at Ohio State through study abroad.

This e-Portfolio will show my professional, academic and personal development while at Ohio State. I hope to showcase all the amazing experiences and opportunities Ohio State has given me.
