G.O.A.L.S.

As an OSU Honors student, I pledge to pursue the following G.O.A.L.S.:

Global Awareness:

I will strive for global awareness through my coursework and through study abroad opportunities. As a psychology major, I am committed to improving quality of life for individuals across all countries and cultures. I intend to apply what I learn in psych about understanding, kindness, and accommodation wherever my studies may take me. For example, in May 2018 I aim to participate in OSU’s visual arts study abroad program traveling to Siena. As an art/art history enthusiast, I look forward to experiencing Italy’s rich artistic history and culture, studying works from the Renaissance period, and applying that knowledge within the course’s required projects.

Original Inquiry:

I plan to demonstrate original inquiry through participation in psychological research and through independent creative projects. To familiarize myself with the laboratory setting, I will continue to volunteer as a subject for the university’s REP program. Once I have gained a better understanding of how cognitive/social research is conducted, I would like to assist a professor with his/her experiments for actual laboratory experience. In a separate sense, I also intend to pursue my own art projects outside of OSU’s curriculum. These include creating a portfolio website, expanding design selections in my online shop, and completing a rough draft thumbnail for an original graphic novel.

Academic Enrichment:

Academic enrichment is demonstrated through my ambitious class schedule pursuing a major in psychology and a double minor in studio art and English. Through this curriculum, I wish to harmonize hard science with creative/artistic fluidity and explore the importance of art in a scientific age. I plan to culminate my educational experiences in a senior thesis investigating research in neurohumanities.

Leadership Development:

During my time here at Ohio State, I would like to demonstrate leadership through collaboration and commitment. Many years of dedication to martial arts has led me to join the campus Wushu club. Being the only girl on the team, I aspire to become the second female president/co-president in the club’s history. Additionally, I aim to become more involved with mental health advocacy on campus through the Buckeye Campaign Against Suicide.

Service Engagement:

I believe in the importance of service both inside and outside of one’s local community. Over the summers, I plan to serve my immediate community by volunteering at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. It is also an ambition of mine to also participate in a service trip abroad to Latin America. Using my previous knowledge of the Spanish language and my newly acquired skills in psychology, I hope to enrich my global understanding, live beyond the “first world,” and improve the quality of life for those I affect.
