Our topic is about student service and in our video we have a powerpoint to introduce student service and an interview with a student who is currently working in student service.

Jobs I got are a junior software engineer and principal software engineer. These two are the same job but on a different level, and this shows when you have more skills and experience you may have the opportunity to get to a higher level and earn more at the same time. So I searched more according to my interests. I am a gamer and I hope my job could have some “game elements”. I search “Blizzard Entertainment”, I got the average salary of a software engineer is about $81,000. This is the kind of job I want because it has some connection to my major, which is Computer Science Engineering.

As for the salary, I mean, a 6-figure salary is better than $81,000, and it shows a software engineer in Blizzard can have a salary up to $125k. If I can get to that position, this job would be perfect for me. As for satisfaction, I do think satisfaction is more important than the salary, but the truth is when the job has a high salary there is a high chance that people are satisfied with this job. I think whether I like my job are not is very important, but I do want to earn more money at the same time. I answered those 6 questions several times to see what is similar aspects among high salary jobs. My result is that higher salary job has greater parts of higher degree people. Therefore, there must be a chance to have a better salary with more experience and education. Also, high salary jobs always have high job stress, which means if you desire a higher salary you need to have the ability to sustain high press in your career.

Since software engineer is the direction I would choose, I decide to find out how salary can vary among different companies. Sony Computer Entertainment has a salary for software engineers higher than Blizzard, around $96,330. That is not a tremendous difference, so I decide to check out how much would some “tech giants” offer to software engineers. First, we have Dell, this company offers salaries varies from $86,067 to $132,674 depending on what level you are as a software engineer.

Second, here comes Microsoft, this company offers $113,312 for a software engineer and $142,329 for a senior software engineer. Last, I searched Google and Apple, both offer about $154,000 for a senior software engineer.
In order to have the perfect job that I want, I have to do these things. First, stick to the courses I have in my major because this is how I can learn to be a practical software engineer when I graduate. Second, try to apply to a larger company because they are more likely to offer a higher salary. Third, get a higher degree may also help me to get a higher salary. Last but not least, I have to learn how to survive under higher pressure which is common in a higher-level job’s live.

My name is Keyi Lu, and I am from Hangzhou, China. My hobbies include playing video games, photographing, traveling, etc. Basketball is my favorite sport, and I used to play it a lot when I was in high school. However, I haven’t played for months during summer vacation. Since now I am on campus with incredible recreation facilities, it is time to pick it up. I like eating spicy food, but it cannot be too much for me to handle. I have been to many cities and some countries, but my hometown, Hangzhou, has always been my favorite place.

I went to schools in my hometown since kindergarten, and I think that is part of the reason why I like that city so much. However, as I said, I like traveling to other places because I like to experience different cultures. Apart from the US, I have been to Singapore, Japan, and Spain. Among these places, there is a city called Osaka I like most, it is a Japanese city. It is a modern city but not too crowded, like Tokyo. It combines the modern city with ancient elements very well and the people there are very hospitable. It was a pity that I spend only one day there.

The reason why I chose to study here is that this is a big university, and people here take diversity as their strength. I like meeting people from different cultural backgrounds and that is also part of the reason why I like to travel. I think different cultures can help you consider things from different perspectives, and that is important in college learning. Here, at OSU, I am a pre-major in CSE and I will try my best to get good grades to be a formal student in this major. However, there is another major I would like to try if it is available in the following years for me. It is “Moving image production”. I have always wanted to learn how to create great graphics, like those in games and movies. It would be brilliant if I can combine my programming knowledge in CSE with this major.
