OUR PROJECT

Promoting Science Understanding and Interest through Language Science focuses on the scientific study of language and investigates the utility of using language science as a a means to create excitement about science as a practice and to broaden understanding and interest in science, especially among individuals who do not identify with traditional science fields. Our research centers on the Language Sciences Research Lab which is located inside the Center of Science and Industry (COSI). Using the lab’s ongoing outreach efforts — particularly live research with museum visitors as participants and student-led interactive demonstration activities —  as experimental interventions, we strive to answer various questions with our research. Is language science the critical bridge that can draw people into the scientific fold? How well do language science activities generate positive science interest, an understanding of the core features of the nature of science, and an understanding of scientific content information? How do we get the public excited about science?
