Welcome to the lab!

Coffee shop

How is the brain wired to make it possible to converse with friends in a café? With little effort, you can focus your attention on a person’s speech, recognize the words being spoken, and strings together their meanings to understand the intended message, all in real time, and all while tuning out the many other competing voices and sounds.

Work in the lab explores the brain mechanisms that are engaged in verbal communication, with a focus on the those that are involved in spoken word recognition.
