Year in Review

Freshman year is coming to a close and it is a bitter-sweet feeling. I am excited moving forward to face new challenges and expand my horizons. I have really made so many meaningful relationships in just two semesters. I am happy to develop some of my close relationships now even more next year. I am also sad because I will be living in a new dorm next year where I won’t be surrounded by as many of my fellow Mount Scholars as compared to this year. The whole living experience this year was awesome and I know it won’t be the same. A big milestone I am at right now is the 2/3 mark towards getting into my major. It will be a huge relief to be in my major of Aerospace Engineering, and it feels like I’m getting so close at this point. In my first year, I have learned that engineering is really hard, but as long as I continue to push through, it will be worth it in the end; it is my true passion. I will take my experiences from this year and move forward to diversify myself this summer in Colorado and the years to come.

Artifact 3

AEV Rapid Prototype-1ehovrx

This is a snapshot of a solidworks part I made myself in Introduction to Engineering II. This is representative of my expanding “belt of tools” I have gained while here at Ohio State. This also shows my own creativity and ingenuity because this assignment was open-ended; I was given the task of creating my own part to add to my team of engineer’s advanced energy vehicle. I am growing as a thinker and as a learner every day here in Columbus, Ohio.

Artifact 2

reflection-on-interview-with-faculty

This piece right here is a reflection paper I wrote about an interview I had with my Introduction to Engineering 1 instructor, Olga Stavridis. This is a woman which I have much respect for, and she has shown me a little bit about being an engineer in the real world. I am proud of this paper because it is an assignment in which I was forced to broaden my horizon once again, and I can truly say I gained some very useful insight again.

Artifact 1

reflection-on-interview-with-mount-alum

This artifact is a reflection essay I wrote about an interview I had the pleasure of completing with an alumni of the Mount Leadership Society. He is a mechanical engineer who works for GE Aviation, which is very comparable to what I want to do with my life as an aerospace engineer. This was a great process in which I gained interview experience and insight into a possibility of what my future could look like. This whole assignment is a representation of how good I truly got it here. The amount of help and support I have as a member of Mount is amazing. I have a close knit group of people who really care about each other and our success in the future, and I know I will have these people to rely on for the rest of my life.

About Me

I am Austin Lowmiller, an extrovert and a sensing and a thinking person. I value God, family, and friends very highly in my life. I love to hang out with friends and play soccer. I came from a small town (and actually grew up on a dairy farm) but I am excited to learn how benefiting it is to live in such a great city like Columbus. This will broaden my horizon as I begin my journey to become a more diverse person equipped to handle any situation. I also have many different skills that I take much pride in. I have a great drive to become the best version of myself; I try to do my best in every aspect of my life. If I don’t know the answer, I will find it. I am also a relator, which means I can relate to others and the situations they face in their lives. My other strengths include discipline, significance, and positivity. All in all, I try to be the best and most well-rounded person I can be.
