Year in Review

Sophomore Year

  • Global Awareness

This year, I took a Sociology class on stratification and it really opened my eyes and expanded my worldview. I learned so much about the ways that people are categorized in society, both to their personal benefit and detriment. I want to keep working toward enhancing my global awareness by taking similar sociology courses in the future and by possibly studying abroad in a European or Scandinavian country. I would love to be able to experience a new culture and way of thinking that I can then incorporate into my life here in the US.

  • Original Inquiry

This past year I solidified my decision to pursue genetic counseling as a career. As a result, I began to look into opportunities for advocacy work as well as internships in genetic counseling. This summer, I will intern with TriHealth in Cincinnati and work with genetic counselors. This opportunity will provide me with valuable experience and better prepare me not only for graduate school but for a career as a genetic counselor.

  • Academic Enrichment

This year, I helped to found a chapter Gamma Rho Lambda National Sorority on Ohio State’s campus. Through this organization I have been able to learn so much about other people and their identities and experiences. Additionally, our sorority values scholarship, and as a result we have worked hard to make sure that all of our members are succeeding in school. We have organized study tables and attended workshops on stress management as well as other enriching activities.

  • Leadership Development

I also have a leadership position in Gamma Rho Lambda, the Keeper of Secrets. As KOS I function as the beginning of a support system for every member of the sorority. I handle interpersonal conflicts as well and individual struggles. I work to make sure that everyone feels that they have their voices heard and are being represented well in the sorority.

  • Service Engagement

This year, I, along with my siblings in Gamma Rho Lambda, have participated in a variety of services opportunities. We put on several bake sales to raise money for the Trevor Project, we attended the NEDA walk, put on a clothing drive for Kaleidoscope Youth Center, and cleaned up a river front as part of a day of service at OSU.
