As an honors student, I plan to achieve global awareness, engage in original inquiry, enrich my mind academically, grow in leadership, and participate in service throughout my time at Ohio State. Each of these categories is essential in maintaining a well-rounded character that is important in college and beyond. I hope that I may take advantage of the many opportunities OSU has to offer throughout the next four years so that I may build character, grow intellectually, and expand my horizons.
Academically, I have chosen to major in biology on the pre-med track. I enjoy biology and I plan to attend medical school post-graduation. The biology major sets me up for the greatest and most direct success in my endeavors. I also plan to minor in business as this area of study interests me in addition to the sciences. I do believe that a background in business will also help in the medical field as healthcare becomes more and more like a business each day. Knowing both the business and scientific aspects of healthcare will be beneficial in the long run.
To achieve global awareness, I hope to participate in cultural clubs such as the Pilipino Student Association to meet people of diverse backgrounds who I can still relate to in some aspect. I would also like to also participate in Doctors Without Borders or go on an international service trip during a break to be able to travel outside of the U.S. and gain a more worldly perspective while having fun and serving others. In addition to international trips, I would also like to participate in Buck-I-Serv domestically. I am very interested in going on a trip to Florida offered through Buck-I-Serv in which students serve ill children and their families through an organization entitled “Give Kids the World.” I hope that within my four years at the university, I will be able to land a spot on the trip. I also want to volunteer at Wexner Medical Center next semester and continue volunteering there throughout my college career. I joined an organization entitled “Smiles with Style” at OSU as well and I hope that I may continue work with this organization for as long as possible. I am very excited to grow through these exciting experiences and to impact the community in the best way that I can.
To achieve original inquiry, I would very much like to participate in undergraduate research. In particular, I want to work on something pertaining to medicine or healthcare. I hope to either work on research at Wexner Medical Center or the Cleveland Clinic at some point in my college career. I hope to also foster individual inquiry within Undergraduate Student Government by thinking of ideas and working towards making them realities to benefit the community. I hope to develop my leadership within this organization as well or at least enhance it so that I may bring my skills to another organization in the future. Finding an internship (hopefully in the healthcare world) either during the school year or over the summer is also one a plan of mine that can contribute to leadership development for my future.
I have many plans as an Ohio State student that will challenge me academically, broaden my world view, allow me to serve the community, build my leadership skills, and allow me to think outside of the box. I hope that within my time at OSU as an honors student with endless possibilities at my reach, I may accomplish each goal and grow with a valuable, deeper understanding of the world around me.
