Biography
Hello, my name is Sidney Long and I am a senior Animal Science major with a biology minor. I am originally from a very small village in central Ohio and I made the leap as a freshman to come to one of the largest universities in the country; Ohio State! I am currently applying to veterinary school and I am hoping to start veterinary school in the Fall of 2020. I am part of many organizations on campus, including The Ohio State Equestrian Team, The Ohio State Ski Team, Buckeye Parasitology Club, Pre-Vet Club, and Biological Science Scholars. My hope is to one day work as a DVM faculty member at a university where I can teach, practice, and conduct research.
Why I decided to pursue Global Option
Participation in Global Option came from the idea that I wanted to showcase what I have learned abroad to future employers and veterinary schools. My experiences go much deeper than being a tourist in other countries. The knowledge I gained from these experiences comes from the unique opportunities that are created by the Ohio State University Education Abroad supporters. The number of different private farms, private ranches, and unique rehabilitation centers that I have been to account for more than spending holiday on a beach. I have diversified my portfolio and participating in Global Option has given me a platform to present my newfound knowledge.
My Goal for Global Options
Through Global Option I want to develop a concise way of presenting my experiences to future employers and colleagues. Articulating the knowledge I have gained from each study abroad trip can be difficult since each trip was extremely different in topic, location, and structure. Analyzing what I should take away from each experience and comparing and contrasting the different trips can be difficult to do without some guidance, and this is where Global Options is beneficial. Developing a way to combine the knowledge from my experiences into one cohesive thought is important to breaking down how I have developed culturally, academically, and personally.
