G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: The most obvious way to meet and experience new ideas and cultures is to meet new people. But not only do you need to put yourself out there, but you need to respect those new ideas when you are exposed to them. Another possibility is studying abroad, but I’m not sure if this is something I want to pursue myself. It is something I can see myself doing, but necessarily something I need to do.
  • Original Inquiry: This goal is probably the most difficult for me to see a concrete path to completion. I am interested in psychology, so the obvious answer would be to work in a lab trying to solve why we behave and think the way we do. But that is a very broad goal that I hope to narrow as I am able to experience more of what the major has in store for me.
  • Academic Enrichment: Not only do I wish to get good grades while I am here, but I also want to be able to balance that with a good mix of clubs. I am already trying to do that this year, as I am considering joining the officials association, and the college republicans. These clubs will help me grow academically beyond what I can learn in the classroom.
  • Leadership Development: As a member of PSL, leadership skills are something that I feel is a necessity. Whether or not I choose to follow a path in politics, I know that there are other useful applications for these abilities. Working together with others and taking charge when needed is a part of life that can constantly challenge people. I hope that the scholars program will provide me with the opportunity to further develop my leadership skills.
  • Service Engagement: I hope that I will also be able to provide my assistance outside the classroom to different services that may require some help. While I’m not sure which program(s) I want to help yet, the big one that comes to mind is buckeyethon.
