- Michael Moodispaw wins Mars G. Fontana Award
- The Department of Material Science and Engineering awarded the Mars G. Fontana award to Michael Moodispaw on March 3rd, 2020. The Mars G. Fontana award is presented annually to the outstanding senior scholar conducting research in metallurgy. The MSE department cited Michael’s participation within Impulse Manufacturing Lab (IML) and the Light Metals and Manufacturing Research Lab during his undergraduate career. Michael worked as a research assistant for IML participating in several impact welding research projects for one year before seeking out a dual degree program the LMMRL group. Participating the BS/MS program with the intention to obtain a PhD, Michael has participated in several projects with the LMMRL group during his first year of the program including alloy development and computer modeling. The MSE department highlighted Michael’s achievement of winning a poster contest at the World Congress for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) in the summer of 2019. “Winning the Mars G. Fontana award has great meaning to me. I have always been eager to get involved with research and have found metallurgical research to be a great place to pursue my personal interests in research, and apply my educational background to ongoing research conducted within the department. The MSE department has provided me many opportunities to expand my knowledge and get involved in the research at the university, and I appreciate their recognition of my interest and pursuit of scientific research.” – Michael Moodispaw
